Understanding the Solar Kart 440 Generator System
The batteries
The batteries store a total of 5280 watts (12 volts x 440 amps). They are the foundation of the system.
Although a deep cycle battery can be completely discharged to zero before recharge, it is best to avoid going below 50% before recharging to prolong battery life, though an occasional total discharge is not a big deal. The Solar Kart 405 batteries store 5280 watts of power, so a 50% discharge would be 2640 watts of power regularly available.
The Panels
The solar panels produce 405 watts per hour. The batteries 50% discharged would take the three 135 watt panels 6.5 hours (2640 / 405 = 6.5) to fully recharge in full sunlight.
The Inverter
The inverter produces 5000 watts per hour. A 100 watt light bulb can be operated continuously for 26.4 hours (2640 watts total) before draining the fully charged batteries halfway. A 1200 watt hairdryer could be operated for 132 minutes continuously before draining the fully charged batteries halfway. The 5000 watt inverter allows one to operate several electrical products at the same time - or single devices drawing large amounts of power.
With three 135 watt panels in full sunlight and operating a device drawing 405 watts of power or less, such as a very large refridgerator, the batteries would never be discharged since the amount of power being drawn out of the system is the same or less than the power being put in.
