KidWind Dowels 100 Pack

These dowels are used for designing and testing wind turbine blades, and they fit into the KidWind Wind Turbine Hub. Students can design blades using materials like balsa wood or corrugated plastic, and attach their blades to the 1/4-inch dowels using glue or tape.

These dowels, along with blade material, are the only "consumable" parts of a wind turbine blade design experiment.

Frequently Asked Questions
  • Can I just buy 1/4-inch dowels from my local hardware store?

    Yes, but just as a 2 x 4 is not exactly 2 inches by 4 inches, dowels from the hardware store may not be exactly 1/4 inch. You may need to shim store-bought dowels with a little piece of masking tape. KidWind's 1/4-inch dowels will always work with their hubs.

  • Are the wood dowels sustainable?

    Yes. KidWind's dowel supplier is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified.
