Understanding the Solar Kaddy 270 Generator System

The batteries

The batteries store a total of 2640 watts (12 volts x 220 amps). They are the foundation of the system.

Although a deep cycle battery can be completely discharged to zero before recharge, it is best to avoid going below 50% before recharging to prolong battery life, though an occasional total discharge is not a big deal. The Solar Kaddy 270 batteries store 2640 watts of power, so a 50% discharge would be 1320 watts of power regularly available.

The Panels

The solar panels produce 270 watts per hour. The batteries 50% discharged would take the two 135 watt panels 4.9 hours (1320 / 270 = 4.9) to fully recharge in full sunlight.

The Inverter

The inverter produces 3000 watts per hour. A 100 watt light bulb can be operated continuously for 13.2 hours (1320 watts total) before draining the fully charged batteries halfway. A 1200 watt hairdryer could be operated for 66 minutes continuously before draining a fully charged battery halfway. The 3000 watt inverter allows one to operate several electrical products at the same time - or devices drawing large amounts of power.

With two 135 watt panels in full sunlight and operating a device drawing 270 watts of power or less, the batteries would never be discharged since the amount of power being drawn out of the system is the same or less than the power being put in.
