Adding solar to your RV, boat, or any other mobile application is becoming more popular than ever as more people desire to travel independent of the power grid while still using some of their key appliances and electronics.

Mobile and off-grid power systems allow you to enjoy the simple luxuries that electricity provides without the need to use a noisy generator or connected to shore power 100% of the time. The Victron inverter/ charger will accept an AC source (alternative power source like a generator or shore-power hookup) during those days where you may not be receiving full sun or simply need to recharge your batteries faster. Keep the noise at a minimum and harness the power of the sun with solar and storage. For questions on sizing, design, or wiring please contact our sales team at 760.597.0498 x 1 or at sales@ecodirect.com.

Solar panels convert the sun's energy into DC electricity and this electricity charges the battery. A charge controller is used between the solar panels and the battery bank to prevent your batteries from overcharging as well as increase the efficiency of the charging. The battery can also be charged by an alternate AC source (like a generator or shore-power hook-up) with an inverter/ charger as our Explorer RV System includes. An inverter charger is a bidirectional inverter that allows you to convert DC power from your battery to AC power for your loads as well as taking an AC source and converting back to DC to charge your batteries back up in the event of insufficient charging from solar (rainy days). A battery management system increases the lifespan of your system to prevent any damages from overcharging, undercharging, or temperature rise within the system.

Features

MultiPlus - Multifunctional
The MultiPlus, as the name suggests, is a combined inverter and charger in one elegant package. Its many features include a true sine wave inverter, adaptive charging, hybrid PowerAssist technology, plus multiple system integration features.

Unique PowerAssist feature
The MultiPlus will prevent the overload of a limited AC source, such as a generator or shore power connection. First, battery charging will automatically be reduced when otherwise an overload would occur. The second level will boost the output of a generator or shore side supply with power taken from the battery.

Uninterrupted AC power (UPS function)
In the event of a grid failure, or when shore or generator power is disconnected, the inverter within the Multi is automatically activated and takes over the supply to the connected loads. This happens so fast (less than 20 milliseconds) that computers and other electronic equipment will continue to operate without disruption.

Virtually unlimited power thanks to parallel operation
Up to 6 Multis can operate in parallel to achieve higher power output. Three-phase or split phase operation is also possible. Please check our datasheets to see which models have paralleling, three-phase, and split phase capabilities.

Remote Monitoring and Control
When coupled with a GX device (e.g. Cerbo GX) you can monitor and control your Multi and system or systems' locally (LAN) or remotely via the internet from anywhere in the world, using the free VRM app and free VRM portal website. Access can be from a phone, tablet, laptop, or PC for multiple operating systems. There is no end to the level of control, from adjusting your Multi to auto starting a backup generator and more.

Batteries - Quantity 2:

Victron Energy BAT512116610 > LiFePO4 12.8V (160Ah) - Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFeP04) Batteries

Lithium-iron-phosphate (LiFePO4 or LFP) is one of the safest lithium battery types. The nominal voltage of a LFP cell is 3.2V (2V/cell). A 12.8V LFP battery therefore consists of 4 cells connected in series.

Model LFPSmart 12.8/160-a
Series LFPSmart Batteries
Manufacturer Victron Energy

Mechanical

Type Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4)
Dimensions (L x W x H) 9.33" x 12.64" x 5.98"
Weight 44.1 lbs
Nominal Voltage 12.8V
Rated Capacity (20 Hour Rate) 160 AH

Rugged
A LFP battery does not need to be fully charged. Service life even slightly improves in case of partial charge instead of a full charge. This is a major advantage of LFP compared to lead-acid. Other advantages are the wide operating temperature range, excellent cycling performance, low internal resistance and high efficiency.

LFP is therefore the chemistry of choice for demanding applications.

Efficient
In several applications (especially off-grid solar and/or wind), energy efficiency can be of crucial importance. The round-trip energy efficiency (discharge from 100% to 0% and back to 100% charged) of the average lead acid battery is 80%.

The round-trip energy efficiency of a LFP battery is 92%.

The charge process of lead-acid batteries becomes particularly inefficient when the 80% state of charge has been reached, resulting in efficiencies of 50% or even less in solar systems where several days of reserve energy is required (battery operating in 70% to 100% charged state).

In contrast, a LFP battery will still achieve 90% efficiency under shallow discharge conditions.

Size and weight
Saves up to 70% in space
Saves up to 70% in weight

Expensive?
LFP batteries are expensive when compared to lead-acid. But in demanding applications, the high initial cost will be more than compensated by longer service life, superior reliability and excellent efficiency.

Bluetooth
With Bluetooth cell voltages, temperature and alarm status can be monitored. Very useful to localize a (potential) problem, such as cell imbalance.

Product Description

A solar charger gathers energy from your solar panels, and stores it in your batteries. Using the latest, fastest technology, Victron Energy SmartSolar MPPT 150/85-Tr VE.Can maximizes this energy-harvest, driving it intelligently to achieve full charge in the shortest possible time. SmartSolar maintains battery health, extending its life. The VE.Can feature is the ideal solution for synchronised parallel operation of up to 25 controllers.

By constantly monitoring the voltage and current output of your solar (PV) panels, MPPT technology ensures that every drop of available power is rinsed out of your panels, and harvested for storage. The advantage of this is most noticeable when the sky is partially clouded, and light intensity is constantly changing.

Features

  • Ultra-fast Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT)
Especially in case of a clouded sky, when light intensity is changing continuously, an ultra-fast MPPT controller will improve energy harvest by up to 30% compared to PWM charge controllers and by up to 10% compared to slower MPPT controllers.

  • Advanced Maximum Power Point Detection in case of partial shading conditions
If partial shading occurs, two or more maximum power points (MPP) may be present on the powervoltage curve. Conventional MPPTs tend to lock to a local MPP, which may not be the optimum MPP. The innovative SmartSolar algorithm will always maximize energy harvest by locking to the optimum MPP.

  • Outstanding conversion efficiency
No cooling fan. Maximum efficiency exceeds 98%.

  • Flexible charge algorithm
Fully programmable charge algorithm, and eight pre-programmed algorithms, selectable with a rotary switch (see manual for details).

  • Extensive electronic protection
Over-temperature protection and power derating when temperature is high. PV short circuit and PV reverse polarity protection. PV reverse current protection.

  • Bluetooth Smart built-in
The wireless solution to set-up, monitor, update and synchronise SmartSolar Charge Controllers.

  • Internal temperature sensor and optional external battery voltage and temperature sensing via Bluetooth
A Smart Battery Sense or a BMV-712 Smart Battery Monitor can be used to communicate battery voltage and temperature to one or more SmartSolar Charge Controllers.

  • Fully discharged battery recovery function
Will initiate charging even if the battery has been discharged to zero volts.
Will reconnect to a fully discharged Li-ion battery with integrated disconnect function.

  • VE.Can: the multiple controller solution
Up to 25 units can be synchronised with VE.Can
