Description

KidWind High Torque Generator

The High Torque Generator is another option for your wind turbine generator. When compared to our standard Wind Turbine Generator, this High Torque Generator will produce lower voltage but higher amperage for a given rotor RPM. The High Torque Generator is great for load devices with higher current draw (like the water pump).

This generator has the same 2 mm driveshaft as the standard Wind Turbine Generator, so the KidWind Hub is interchangeable with either motor. The generator also has 4-foot leads with shrink-wrap reinforced soldering.

Voltage output 0-10 V
Voltage output 0-10 V
Amperage output 0-0.5 amps
Diameter of the motor 0.95 in.
Wire length 4 feet
Shaft diameter 2 mm

You Can:

  • Use the High Torque Generator as a DC motor or generator
  • Spin the driveshaft to produce electric current
  • Explore torque vs. speed
  • Compare airfoils and flat blades

Frequently Asked Questions
  • How much power can this generator make?

Typical output in non-geared wind devices is 0.5-2 volts at 0.1-0.4 amps. Geared wind turbines can produce higher power output.

  • Can I use this generator in a KidWind Challenge competition?

No. You cannot use this generator in a KidWind Challenge National Competition. You can, however, use it in the web competition.

  • What size is the generator driveshaft?

This generator has a 2mm driveshaft.

  • Will this generator work with the wind turbine hub?

Yes, the hub fits perfectly on this generator driveshaft.

  • Why do you call it the High Torque Generator?

Good question! Torque is related to amperage – and this motor generates higher amperage. The water pump, for example, needs lots of torque to pump a lot of water. By pushing more amperage into the pump, we give it more torque to pump water.

  • Will this light an LED?

    Yes.
